IMP 3-2: 2021 Carpentaria 1 Work Program NT Exploration Permit (EP) 187 EMP

Overview

On 18 November 2020, Imperial Oil and Gas Pty Ltd submitted an EMP for assessment under the Petroleum (Environment) Regulations 2016.

The EMP proposes the expansion of the existing Carpentaria-1 well site, installation of wastewater tank pad, hydraulic fracturing and well testing of the existing  vertical exploration and appraisal petroleum Carpentaria-1 well, the drilling of a lateral bore from the existing well into the target Velkerri shale formation followed by hydraulic fracturing and well testing. The Carpentaria-1 well site is located approximately 350 km south-east of Katherine in the Beetaloo Sub-basin.

The new activities include:

  • Expansion of the existing Carpentaria-1 well site to accommodate waste water tanks
  • hydraulic fracturing in the existing vertical Carpentaria-1 exploration and appraisal well
  • completion and testing of the Carpentaria-1 exploration and appraisal well
  • drilling of a lateral bore in the Carpentaria-1 into the target Velkerri shale formation
  • hydraulic fracturing of the lateral bore in the Carpentaria-1 exploration and appraisal well
  • completion and testing of the Carpentaria-1 exploration and appraisal well
  • management of wastewater evaporation, maintenance and monitoring works on the Carpentaria-1 exploration and appraisal well.
