Solar Car Challenge meets Be Crocwise

Preparations for the 2023 Bridgestone World Solar Car Challenge this year included a visit from a member of the Parks and Wildlife Community Engagement team and a Be Crocwise presentation. Test runs for the solar cars are held along Gunn Point Road just outside of Darwin. With many of the roadside culverts in the area leading directly into creeks and rivers our very special visitors needed to Be Crocwise and understand that they were now in croc country.

As the sun sets on another Parks and Wildlife campground host season, we want to express our gratitude to all the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to assist our rangers during peak season this year. These adventurous individuals went above and beyond to ensure that visitors had a memorable and enjoyable experience in our parks. From greeting campers and providing helpful information about the park, to tirelessly maintaining the campgrounds and keeping them clean and safe for everyone to enjoy, it was a great effort and we thank you!

Water planning in the Northern Territory on track

Australia’s National Water Initiative (NWI) is the nation’s blueprint for water reform, adopted by all states and territories in 2004. The NWI sets the overarching framework and outlines key principles to support jurisdictions in their transition to sustainable water resource management. One pillar of the NWI is a requirement for jurisdictions to develop and implement water plans. Since 2004 the Northern Territory (NT) has taken steps towards implementing all aspects of the NWI, including through its regulatory and planning activities.

The ‘Freshwater Futures’ panel discussion was part of the Environment Centre Northern Territory’s (ECNT) State of the Environment Northern Territory conference, held at the George Brown Botanic Gardens in Darwin (Larrakia country) on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 September.
