Container Deposit Scheme

Review of the Operations of the Container Deposit Scheme

The NT Government is inviting comments on the Northern Territory Container Deposit Scheme.

The Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) commenced in January 2012 to help reduce litter, increase recycling and help reduce the amount of waste being disposed to landfill. Under the CDS, anyone can take eligible beverage containers purchased in the Northern Territory to an approved Collection Depot and obtain 10 cents refund per container. The CDS is a great way for community groups, sporting clubs, schools and other organisations to raise funds.

Under the Environment Protection (Beverage Containers and Plastic Bags) Act, a review is to be conducted every five years from the commencement of the CDS.

Participating in the survey gives you an opportunity to contribute to improvements in consumer experience with CDS, and the environmental and community benefits that could come from improving access/operations of CDS.

Have your say on the operations of the Container Deposit Scheme by completing
